Fillings

The extraction of a tooth means a trauma for our patients. That is why the dentist always tries to save the tooth. The majority of people have tooth fillings which are practically the most basic part of dental treatments. Fillings can be made from cement, amalgam, composite, porcelain or metal.

When we make a tooth filling, we always focus on the characteristics of the tooth, the technical conditions and the demand of the patient.

Composite filling

White fillings are called esthetic fillings. At our dental clinic only white fillings are made, we do not make amalgam fillings.

Composite filling is the most common white filling type. It is a high-quality material and its color matches the color of the tooth. They can be made relatively quickly in one session. Composite filling took the place of amalgam filling in everyday dentistry. Its making is subject to different conditions: needs more time and careful work than amalgam filling. Experience shows that its lifetime is usually five years.

The composite or porcelain filling made by a dental technician is more accurate than the composite filling. It is made in two sessions and is used for big restoration.

Porcelain filling

It is called inlay or onlay as well. It has a great esthetic effect. The highest quality and most modern fillings are made from press porcelain.

Composite inlay is made similarly to porcelain inlay. Nowadays, its material rivals porcelain in quality, as composite is enriched with porcelain particles. That is why its abrasion resistance is excellent and it is less fragile that porcelain.

As the traditional porcelain lost ground in this field due to its fragility and press porcelain is quite expensive, composite inlays gain more and more ground. Its making needs two sessions, as porcelain filling is made by a dental technician.

Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is a sad but necessary treatment. If the cavity on a tooth reaches its inner part, the so called pulp, the tooth needs root canal treatment. This kind of treatment cannot be foreseen. It becomes clear only during the treatment, that even if the patient did not have a toothache, the pulp is inflamed or even open.

In these cases treatment is unavoidable, or it can happen that the patient will have serious toothache following the treatment.

During the root canal treatment the dentist removes all living tissue from the inner side of the tooth, grinds, so to speak enlarges it, and finally it will be closed with medical or final root canal filling.

This procedure needs much carefulness, attention and patience. It can happen that the medical treatment of the tooth needs more sessions.

Usually, the first session is more unpleasant and more time-consuming.

The patient receives anaesthetic, so the treatment is not painful.
